Summer Temperatures...

Hope H

Corn-A-Holic
My office where I keep my snakes is up to 92*. I don't have the air on in here because I heard it can cause respitory infections. It goes down in the mid to upper 70's at night but the day temps are high. Is this ok? Their heat tape is on a thermostat that goes on at 83* I'm just worried about how hot it is in here. Maryland summers are hot! Anyone else experiencing this?

If this was the case in the wild, they would just find somewhere to cool down. Make sure that they have plenty of water to soak in and a hide to get in the shadow. I dont see a problem. I think we all worry too much about our babies;)

I unplug their heat pads during the summer months in PA. Nightime temperature drops are normal and healthy. I have a fan in the room, but not blowing directly on any of them. In fact, I often use it to blow the air out. Good luck! Hope this helped..

Blech...there's a heat index of 107 here in MD today. My snakes are off their heat sources for the summer unless the temp drops below 80 during the day. They seem to be loving these temps though, they are active and fine, although if it gets too hot I may put a damp paper towel in the hide box.

By the way...respiratory infections are not fun. I am currently giving one of my snakes (who seems especially prone to respiratory infections) antibiotic injections and hoping none of the others caught it before I noticed him and quarrantined him.

CornsnakeKeeper............

Where abouts in Pa are you located? I'm in Lower Burrell-bout 30 miles south of Pitts.

As for the summer temps......

Is it ok for them to be in air conditioning? We just have two sm. window units, it still gets over 80 in here between 3 and 6pm. And their temps in the tanks are always high like 80 to 84. I shut off the heat pads but will they be able to digest properly? I thought that the Corn manual said 92 was the best temp for digestion?!

Thanks

Colleen
