Sunlight and cornsnakes

SHAKSNAKE

The crappy keeper!
i usually keep my corn in his tank with the red bulb, he doesn't get much light. i read corns are nocturnal so its ok.

but, i was wondering if regular sunlight can brighten the colors on your corn? or if kept in the dark will they be on the darker side?

I use the red bulb at night and a sun glo bulb during the day. both of the bulbs i use are exo-terra bulbs.

I have never heard anything like that, so I dont know what to tell you about the colors and all. But I do think you should take your snake outside durring the day to let it soak up some all natural sun. I guess its too late now because its almost winter. But you can still hold it by an open window and let the snake soak up some sun.

Corn Snakes cannot change colors as a reaction to their surroundings. Sunlight (or lack or it) has no impact on a Corn Snake's colors. Most of the larger breeders use rack systems which receive little light, even if there's a light on in the snake room. Also keep in mind that albino (as well as snow) Corn Snakes are especially sensitive to bright light.

Corns do not need any lights, and actually their tanks should not be placed in direct line of a window, because the sunlight that seeps in can actually heat up their viv to dangerous temperatures!

You shouldn't keep your snake in a closet or anything, but they don't really need a whole lot of light, and actually seem to prefer darkness. They feel more comfortable in low light situations.
