swallowed live?!?

was feeding my snake today, it has had some troubles, so i fed it a live pinkie.
it swallowed it alive!? i ran to get something to kill the pink before he finished swallowing, but by the time i got back he'd eatten it.
i could see the pink moving in the snake.
its been a few hours, snake seems ok. i'm just worried about this. what if it had been something that was able to bite or scratch. why didn't my snake kill it first?
 
My young snakes have been very clumsy eaters and have done the same exact thing. It has never hurt them. As they get older they learn how to kill the mouse before eating. I have had some that take many feedings before they learn to kill the mouse properly.
I have a King snake right now doing the same thing. He is trying so hard to wrap the pinkie to kill it but he's just too young to have a grasp on it properly. He ends up eating them alive everytime.
 
Oh wow that's horrible. Of course I'd be worried for my snake but I'd be feeling so bad for the poor pink...so glad I feed F/T.
 
I have several young snakes that swallow them live. Never had a problem. I believe that the digestive process actually begins before the prey gets to the stomach.
 
Dont worry

My snake has swallowed pinkies live on many accounts, most of the time it is because the food source is too small and you should move up to the next size, problem fuzzy. The mouse should be 1 to 1 1/2 time as thick as the snake.
