Does anyone know were you can buy snake steak sausage made by T rex (in the U.S.)? I can only find it on a european website. And also is it expensive?

The "skin" isnt very digestible and can cause SERIOS damage to the liver (dont know why) all in all its not good lol

Well im going to get a snake and was wondering if they would work since it was a jouvinille. Ive heard that the young snakes have no problems eting them.

What if it gets hooked on eating those, and won't eat other food later on in life when it is dangerous? And why would it only be dangerous for an adult snake?

well there not good for the snake and to tell you the truth its dangerous for all ages and feeding them is pretty much killing your snake.

Also, JG89--There are other options to keeping mice in the freezer. Perhaps you could save up for an ice chest for just your mice, or you could buy the mice whenever you want to feed and never have them in the freezer.

I have a breeder freind and he treid them out on a pair of gosts. They both died and when he took them to the vet he said it was liver falure he took the sausages in and asked if they could be the source of the problem and the vet told him that he had 3 other people come in with dead snakes all of which died of liver failure and all of which where eating the sausages. I talked to him today about the sausages and he was told it is because there is too much fat and they only use the skin for the sausage so there is TERIBLE nutrsional(sp) content. I would just stay away from them but thats just me.

Sorry, yes of course my 5 year old Mayzee eats those.... Come on mum a tupperware box won't give smells or germs, good luck mate

My roommate is a tad unhappy at the thought of mice hanging out next to her ice cream, so I've been sneaking them in a few at a time. I keep them in a little paper bag and put them waaaaay at the back where no one looks (of course I have to use a step stool 'cause I'm short...). Perhaps you could do that. It would sort of be one of those "don't ask, don't tell" things with your mom. At least she's all right with there being snakes in the house--My mom wouldn't let me get snakes when I lived at home!

I asked about these sausages a few months ago; the old thread is here. The thread has a link to a site where you can buy them. I can't tell you if they're any good, though, because I eventually decided on frozen mice for my snakes despite my family's complaints.

Edit: There's another old thread right here.

Kathy Love mentions them in her manual, and said nothing about a problem with liver toxitity. They said that the snakes took them readily, but that they were expensive. My friend has some rattlesnakes that aren't eating, and he was force feeding them with the sausages. He said they were easier and cleaner to feed that way, and so far no regurges. I'd be interested to see if there were any studies done. My local petstore still carries them.
