Taking and letting go?

Hi all, when we fed our snake the other night, she would take it in her mouth and then let go! She has never done this before, only when she tries to get it round the middle! She did finally eat the first fuzzy, then took the second one two or three times before giving up a losing interest. She has never refused food before and is not in "blue". Any ideas or am i fussing again!!! lol
She is nearly 2 and just about 2 feet long. BTW she is also spending a lot of time on top of her hide instead of under it. Does this just mean that she feels safe and likes us!
Thanks, Jill

Just one thing jumps to my attention. My rising 2 year olds are all on adult mice and even a couple of my yearlings (around 11-14 months old) are on small adult mice. Try moving her up a size for the next few feeds as I think she's overdue.

I have 2003's that are clost to double the length of your snake. I think yours will grow a little better on more appropriate food.

I would say she's probably comfortable enough now. :)

I agree with Princess in saying that maybe one bigger food item (at least a hopper) may be better for her. Some corns that are used to eating 2 or 3 prey items at a time generally don't feel the need to when they get older. As they grow, their metablisms slow down and they don't need to eat as much or as often. Give her a larger item so that even if she only eats one, you can ensure that she has a decent sized meal in her stomach. :)

quick update

Hi Jynx and Princess, thanks for the replies and sorry for not responding sooner, life is very hectic all of a sudden!

Quick update, I have been told that it is possible she is going to lay some slugs! They are so keen to reproduce that they produce eggs anyway, she has never been near a male, (poor thing)! We have given her a moist hide where she spends most of her time now and we are waiting for her to shed. After about 10 days we have been told that she will probably lay eggs, so we wait to see. She did however eat a mouse the other night so maybe she was just not hungry before!

I always get told to feed her more on this site, she is growing well, shedding well and seems perfectly healthy and happy. I do wonder if I am feeding her hoppers though! I looked on a website that gave sizes of mice relating to coins. OK, it was a US site so was in dollars which being in England I do not have! The mice I am feeding are about 2-21/2 long in the body with the tail on top. (well on the end actually)!! Does this seem big for a fuzzy?

Thanks for all the advice

Jill :wavey:
