Tank Cleaning

Hello all,

I have a rather small tank for my young ghost corn and thought that it may get a good sterile cleaning from the dishwasher, (w/ no dishes, food or actual dish washing detergent) with a little bit of bleach. Has anyone attempted this? And if so, how did it turn out :shrugs:

Thanks in advance for your responses :grin01:

Although the risks are often wildly exaggerated, snakes can carry salmonella which causes illness in humans. For that reason, I don't let any of my snakes' equipment into the kitchen, but do all my "housekeeping" in the bathroom.

Personally I'd avoid using the dishwasher.

Hi, I agree with bitsy as I also do all my cleaning in the bathroom!
I use baby sterilising fluid diluted as per instructions, in a large bucket/bowl and submerge the small baby tubs in that for 30 minutes, after washing in warm soapy water and rinsing thoroughly as you would a babies bottle. I then rinse the tubs with very hot water to make sure the is no steriliser residue on them.

Hope this helps and best wishes to you and your new little one,

What's the tank made of? You said it's "rather small"...it's not a Kritter Keeper is it? I'm not sure if that plastic would hold up to the heat of the dishwasher. Even if it's glass, I don't think I'd put it in the dishwasher for all the reasons already mentioned.

Thanks for the replies. Yes the tank is glass and not plastic. I'll probaby still wash it by hand but had the idea and just had to have feedback ^_^
