Tank Cover

Hi guys, I'm new here. I just bought a corn snake that should be arriving tomorrow morning, so, I went out and bought all the stuff I need for his environment and all. Problem is I couldn't see the lid on the tank I bought and it turns out it is metal mesh. I heard this was bad for them because they rub their noses on it a lot. Should I look for another lid or does anyone have any methods of making is safer?

Also, are live plants safe for us with corn snakes. This is not my first reptile but it is my first corn snake so I'm not sure if there is a difference with these particular snakes.

Thanks

Oh yeah one more question. I bought a 2003 creamsicle and I was wondering if someone could tell me approximately what his length would be at this particular age. I've looked around and it seems it varies with every snake, some were three feet, some two, and some were still very small. Anyone have an idea? I bought a 20 gal long tank, but if he is still really small I can use an older 10 gal tank I have.

A screen top is fine as long as the snake isnt constantly rubbing against it to get out, which happens more so to larger snakes. I'd worry more about the corn escaping then rubbing its nose, so be sure you have good locks.

Live plans are safe, however you have to be positive that there is no chemicals used on it or in the soil, and if you cant be sure you woul dhave to change out the soil and was the plant off very well.

An 03 corn should be around 2-3ft long if fed on a fairly regular (weekly or so) diet, but it can be longer or shorter if it was fed more or less, and it also depends on genetics.
