Tank Downsizing

Hey all.

My partner has decided that we should downsize our tank as it is a bit awkward for our active lifestyle ie. moving around a lot. Our current tank is about 6ftx2ft and inside we have a 4ft corn. We also have a 2ft corn kept in a much smaller terrarium. Would it be considered OK to move the snakes into a smaller tank, and even put them in together? What are the optimum tank sizes for snakes like ours?

Cheers for your help.

I'm not sure I want to put our corns in together after reading some threads about their cannibalistic behaviour!! What are your experiences of snake cohabiting? I read in another thread that having males/females with a big age difference can cause breeding problems...

Search for cohabitation. It's a bad thing. Yeah, people do it. And yeah, some people never experience a problem. But there are enough photos floating around on the forums of snakes that look like accordians (guess why) and dead, bile-covered snakes that I can't recommend it.

A cage the size of a 20 gallon (long) aquarium is the minimium for an adult corn.

You could possible add a divider in your larger tank and just have that one tank with the two snakes in different compartments.

That would be a possible solution although you stated the 6ft. tank was too cumbersome. A 20 gl will suffice for each, or you could get large rubbermaids (I bought 30 gl. ones) and those stack. They are also lightweight and not very expensive. An under tank heater can be attached to a piece of tile or glass and placed under each without a problem. I would not co-habitate. Cannibilism is the least likely problem. Disease and stress are far more likely. Keep them seperated.
