Tank Rearranging

So I did a search and didn’t see anything. So I went into the reptile room this morning to have my morning look in on Maximus. My newly acquired corn snake. I have had him for about 3 weeks now, and he seems to be settling in quite nicely. So this morning when I went in to look at him he had completely rearranged the warm end of his tank. He had pushed his aspen into a heap on the one side and turned over a couple of hides that I have for him on that end. The hides I am currently using for him is a small section of egg carton, a toilet paper roll that I have cut the bottom off of, and a small plastic bowl. Since I have never seen him move around more than a normal slow slither; I wonder if this behavior is normal. I’m hoping that it is but figured I had better post and see. Thanks for any comments.

My hoggie does that from time to time. I think she gets bored of looking at the same old viv every day. :) As long as your temps haven't changed, I wouldn't worry.

The temps did go up but I think that was because my thermometer probe was sitting on the glass. After I put the tank back to the way it was with the probe in the substrate it went back to normal.

The stat probe should be on the glass anyway. You want it at the hottest possible location...

Got ya will move it when I get home. I was under the understanding that it should be close to the top of the substrate surface.

As I understand it the t'stat probe should be on the glass because snakes can & will get right down on the glass so it could be too hot if you are checking the temperature on top of the substrate.

My Humphrey likes to wiggle around until "he" gets right down on the glass so this makes sense to me. "He" actually does it more on the cool side than on the hot side, though, he's got all the substrate inside his cool side hide pushed to the edges so he can lie on the glass in there. Temp on the cool side is running 67F, temp on the warm side is 85-87F on the glass, and he is more likely to be on substrate on the warm side. Go figure!

Willow (my normal corn) does the same thing as Humphery. She moves the substrate around all the time, for her it is completely normal behavior. I wouldnt worry too much about it.
