Tank switch-a-roo Question?

I have an '09 Creamsicle corn around 3.5 ft - 4 ft long weighing in at 454 grams. He currently resides in a 40 gallon breeder.

I have an '11 Albino California King Snake around 2 ft - 2.5 ft long weighing in at 160 grams. She currently resides in a 20 gal Long tank.

My Creamsicle never comes out of his hide, and is very inactive for the most part. I was thinking of making room and possibly down grading him in to a 20 gal Long tank.

Now my King snake is all over the place. She's very active even with the proper temps.

I was thinking would it be a bad idea to switch the 2 and put the king in the 40 gallon breeder and the Creamsicle in the 20 gal long? I don't think the Creamsicle will grow any bigger, and the king still has more time to grow? Or should I just leave them be? Any input would be great. Thanks!

I'm in a similar boat. I have a milksnake who is about 2-2.5 feet long and he's in a 30 gal, but he sits quietly in his hide. I also have a corn who is over 3ft and might grow some more, but he is in a 20L. I was thinking about making a switch-a-roo for now. The milk should end up being longer than the corn. Or should I just get a bigger tank for the corn?

Sarah, it sounds like either snake would be happy where they're at, so maybe the best thing for both of us would be to do whatever makes us most comfortable.

That's what's I was thinking too...it may be all what we would be comfortable with. Yet, I thought I'd ask some more experienced keepers what their thoughts were.

I don't think the snakes really would care too much. If I downsize my corns I just try to make their new place more complex. According to zoo "science" a smaller enclosure with lots of things to do will be utilized better than a large enclosure with few things to do. So when I down size I make sure there are branches and fun things to hide in and climb on! :) Just make sure you wash everything really well with some bleaching before switching them around.

Thank you!!!

Most of them aren't bothered about changing tanks. I've certainly moved mine around when I found that my custom-built multi-level vivs were occupied by Corns which just liked sitting under their favourite hides at ground level. The more active Corns use the extra space and climbing equipment and they all seem to be comfortable with the current arrangements.

I think you should be fine. Moving my corn around doesn't seem to affect her at all. So I'm sure your corn won't mind but as someone else said, make it very "adventurous". In case they do like to come out when you aren't looking. Lots of climbing and height variations.

Good luck
