Tank upgrade - 55Gal ??

I was wondering if a 55 gal was a good size tank for a permanent home. I was concerned about the width. The tank is 48L x 13W X 20H. Is this to narrow? My Okee is currently in a 10 gal. He is between 2-2.5 ft. I was planning to upgrade his home.:shrugs:
 
Our corn loves it. Went in at 6 months old and is now 11 months. In the evening is exploring all levels.
