TAPE TRAPS WORK!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

My baby Ultramel Reverse Okeetee corn snake escaped a few days ago. We prayed we'd find him (and that the cats didn't get to him first), and then finally laid down tape traps three days ago or so hoping we could catch him. Last night around midnight I was headed to bed but felt like I wasn't ready to sleep for some reason even though yesterday was a REALLY long day, so my husband and I sat up looking at old pictures on his computer for awhile. Then right behind us I heard tape rustle and my cat was startled and jumped back. I immediately knew what that sound was. We caught him! If I had gone to bed five minutes sooner the cat would eaten him for sure. I'm so happy he's been recovered! *does the happy dance*

When I grabbed ahold of him the silly thing turned around like he was going to bite me with this look of "NOOO! I'M A FREE MAN! YOU'LL NEVER TAKE ME!" lol

He was so happy to be free for a few days :) . I'm chocking this one up to a Resurrection Day miracle. My cat is a fat monster and would have gobbled that thing up in a second if it had slithered onto the tape at any other point in the day. We were gone ALLLLL day!

Anyway, just thought I'd share :)

I had my instinct help me out with finding an escapee mutlitple times, I guess we snake people develop a sixt snakey sense :) I know how you feel now; awesome!!!!

Tape trap? How does it work? My first thought was that the snake would get stuck in the tape but I'm pretty sure that's not it...

Thanks all! I'm happy too :D

As for the snake getting stuck, yes they do get stuck. What I used was plain gift-wrapping tape and then I used some cooking oil to gently work the tape off. Took a bit of time but it eventually came off with no scale damage at all. Then I ran him through some tepid running water and a dish cloth so he wasn't all covered in the oil when we went back in his (now VERY secure) home.

Oh really, That's interesting I always thought tape would be bad for a snake.

When we thought we lost Cassandra, we laid masking/painter's tape along all the walls. I found this photograph on Don Soderberg's (South Mountain Reptiles) website, in the MISC folder, under 'traps'. He has lots of cool info if you click on the different tabs.
