Taranchula question..

Shogun

N00B
I have a couple of different types of taranchulas and want to turn a 50 gallon long into 4 seperate sections, each section holding a different spider. My question is does anyone else have a similair set up? Is there ant thing wrong with my idea?? thanks for your time.

Divided tanks can be dangerous. Full grown T's have been know to squeeze through impossibly small spaces resulting in death if the T's end up meeting.
It can be done but you have to be ABSOLUTELY sure there are no gaps at the top of the dividers, not even 1/8"

I don't see the problem as long as like Waldo said, you are 100% sure there is no possible way ever that the T's would come into contact with each other. That would mean you would need to make 4 separate lids as well... I can't imagine having one lid for all 4 enclosures...

You could ensure there's no gaps by using aquarium sealant around the dividers, if you use glass that is...

alright thanks, i was actually planning on sealing every section with caulking, so there would be no way they could get through. Another question.. could i also put a scorpion in the mix? i dont really see why not right

I don't see why not either, but I would assume you would need to mix species that require the same sort of temperature and humidity etc...

I did it with a 62 gallon tank for my amphibians. I used 1/2 thick glass panes cut to size (from Home Depot) and then sealed it with clear silicone. They will cut it to your measurment specifications. Its not that hard to, but your work needs to be impenetrable... Tarantulas, no matter how big, can squeeze into impossibly small areas. I would imagine you'd have to do something with the lid though as a one piece lid might be asking for trouble.

Here is a pic of my "Amphi Resort"

Isaac may very well be right though. For individual husbandry techniques and also for safety, it might just be easier to buy separate tanks for everyone.

that looks great jynx, and buying separate tanks cheaper?? I dont really see how it would be cheaper. Also it looks alot sweeter to split it up, and better for saving room

Well depending on how bug the Tarantulas are, buying separate tanks could mean no more than getting a handful of critter keepers. The Large and XLarge sizes work well for older tarantulas.

Shogun, I don't remember off the top of my head... but it was reletively inexpensive to get it cut.

Zoo, I used to keep a Blue Sallie, Whites Tree Frog, Green Tree Frog, and a Red Eyed Tree Frog in there. I've since let it go to waste and sold the animals. I just have too many in general to take on so many amphibian projects. You constantly have to keep up with those guys!
