Temperature Gun

Howdy

Anyone have a recommendation for an accurate Infrared Temperature Gun? Looking at adding one to my toolkit, and notice there's quite a range of accuracy between different products. The cheap models on amazon are only accurate within 2-5 degrees. For ~$30 they're claiming ~1 degree accuracy, where an $85 model is no better. Anyone have a suggestion for more accuracy withOut a huge price jump? :dunce:

There's this one from Pro-Exotics. Are they still in that business, even? Anyway, this used to be the standard for herps. Accurate to 1*.

Harbor Freight has a couple, (it's really hard to find them on the website by searching...One Two Both accurate to 2* so no improvement.

My main suggestion is buy one that takes standard AA or AAA batteries. That's the big downfall for all small battery-operated tools like temp guns and scales- they use those watch batteries that are hard to find when you need to replace them.

I wonder if it was ever really sold at $72! Looks like a bargain. And a low battery indicator is great- thermometers go CRAZY when they have low batteries.

Guess will find out when it gets here how it works, its a 9volt so batteries won't be a problem at least. Has a bit of mixed reviews but wondering how many of those low ratings are because of user error.

I like the pro exotics ones. The PE-1 does the trick

I knew I should've referred to this board before buying a temp gun a few days ago! I was picking up some other stuff at Petco and happened to see a temp gun from one of the big herp companies (either ZooMed or Zilla, can't remember) for just $27 so I picked it up. Its readings are all over the place, and it doesn't have a red light so I'm never even sure where I'm pointing it.

Ah well. Live and learn.

I have a couple. Just cheap stuff from Amazon, but I "field tested" them by pointing them at ice water. It read 32F so I figured it couldn't be that bad.
