temperature probe inside or outside tank?

Hi :

Setting up new viv for our newly rehomed cornsnake, Clementine, & have a question about the thermometer probe.

Tank is a 20long Zilla Critter Cage, & I'm using an UTH. I have a probe thermometer & thought I needed to secure the probe to the glass inside the tank (hottest spot she can get to) -- but have now read in one thread that securing the probe OUTSIDE the tank, btwn the UTH & the glass, is safer.

Thoughts?

Thank you!

I have all my probes placed inside the tank, directly over the center of the heating pad. The only disadvantage is that some of my snakeys like to climb up the wire.

I put mine in the tank, in the center of the UTH, on the glass. Do you have a thermostat??

OK, that's what I've done, too -- inside the tank, secured to the glass right on top of the UTH pad.

I don't have a thermostat -- I have an adjustable dimmer-switch I got at the hardware store for $6.:bird:
