Temps (again)

It's warm here in London. My corn is sitting on top of his hide - first time he's done this. I have a thermostat showing 81f. should I turn off the heat mat ?

I haven't been keeping corns long, but others who live in warm places have posted that they turn off their heat mats for the summer. I have done the same and things are well.
Keep an eye out for nighttime temp. drops if you do, though. I had just turned my mats off because it had been very hot in the house, then I fed a large meal, and that night the temps. dropped quite low. I had one regurge as a result. No problems afterward, and at this point there's no chance of low nighttime temps. where I live, but it's something to be aware of.

Im in Glasgow Uk, and i have noticed ambiant temps of around 82!

However night temps drop drastically...

I have found that placing the vivs on the floor has allowed day time temps to not get too warm and still have the heat mat on, with perfect cool end temps.

Kevin - what sort of thermometer are you measuring the temperature with, and whereabouts are you placing the thermometer? If you are just measuring ambient temperatures, you really need to check directly on the floor of the viv above the heat mat, you may find that is a lot higher.

Do you have your heat mat thermostatically controlled?

i always leave my heat mat on but i also have a heat lamp which is controlled by a thermostat which i highly recommend

And I strongly discourage the use of heat lamps. They dry out an enclosure considerably. Corns are crepuscular to nocturnal, and therefore do little basking in the wild. Achieve proper enclosure temps with mats/pads/belly-heat alone, using a thermostat if necessary.

I know what you mean about the heat! I had Connor's mat off during the hot spell and he was fine. It's back on now though, the temperatures dropped considerably today. I would say that if it gets too hot in your viv, it's fine to turn the mat off so long as you keep an eye on the temps in there. Corns are generally hardy.
