if any of you use terra cotta pots how do you cut out the holes smooth holes cuz i dont have power tools hehe any ideas or methods without breaking the pot?

When I use flowerpots, my favourite method is just to make the hole at the top bigger. Chip at it gently with a hammer and chisel & when the hole's large enough, use the chisel to smooth the edges.

It's a bit dodgy trying to break an opening in the rim of a pot (to make a "downstairs" entrance) as they sometimes crack and break completely. Again, the best method I've found is to very slowly chip away at it with a hammer and chisel and smooth the edges of the opening when finished with the chisel.

Somewhere on the net there is a video of someone doing this for a clay saucer (which is what I use for hides as well, they have less open space in them than the pots, so the snake feels more secure). Hold the object over a trash can and simply take a hammer to the edge, one hit. Easy. Not sure if I was just lucky, but no filing was needed.
