Found this guy while fishing on the N. San Gabriel River a few miles upstream of Lake Georgetown. Just north of Austin, TX.

He was hanging out in the shade on some torn up timber that got stuck on a tree from the spring floods.

Sorry it's a bit fuzzy. All I had was my iPhone for pictures. Prettiest Texas Brown I've ever seen.

They are pretty feisty so I wouldn't try to get one. That's just my experience though.

I thought this one was extra pretty with the red checkered pattern on the side with the stripe down the back. Usually they are just tan and brown around here.

Very common though. I see them all the time.
 
That's a nice find. It looks like a gravid female basking to keep her babies warm. I grew up in Cleveland and could find Brown Snakes within city limits. So although common, I've got a soft spot for them. Here's one that I found a couple months ago in Northeast Ohio:

wow comparing those to snakes i see what your talking about with the red sides that first one is amazing looking.
 
And i would love one but i would never get one, if it were up to my irresponsible self id have so many snakes even the venomous ones. thank god for my better half shes probably all that keeps me from doing something stupid.
