My viv, on top of the strata has temperatures of -

92.6f on the warm side and
78.6f on the cool side

Need to put the probe below the strata but I guess that at the UTH must be very hot ?

I think I may need to cool it down ???

If you agree, how do I cool down my viv'

Kevin

Yeah, that's way too hot. Should be low 70s on the cool side at substrate level, and low 80s on the warm side at that level. Your best bet is to place tile, glass, or some other material between the uth and the bottom of the viv. You may also want to place some kind of spacers between the viv bottom and the uth to create air flow. Try either method and see if you can get the temps down. Good luck.

You could also use something to regulate the UTH like a thermostat or rheostat. There a thread here on how to make a rheostate and your could buy a thermostat online.

Good Luck

Yeah I would spend a bit on a thermostat. They cost a bit of money but keep your temps right and last for ages. Mine came with a 5 year gaurentee.

i can't imagine having trouble in the winter with your temps being too high! we turn our heat on like 5 times during the winter and i'm always wearing 3 jackets inside.

unless you are in florida... never freezing here...except today...te he :)

I went to the pet store today interested in buying a digitalk thermostat, but the lady in there said that the UTH's can not be regulated or controled? is that true, or is she crazy?

She's crazy :grin01: Most pet store people just aren't as experienced with reptiles as they are with cats, dogs and fish (and that is even pushing it sometimes). If we couldn't control heat mats or heat tape we'd all be in some serious trouble.

thermostats, rheostat ...those are things that help control temps... the same way you do in you house, reaches a temp and turns off
