The Better Substrate

What's the better substrate to use, aspen bedding or reptibark. I heard a lot of people use reptibark and aspen is good because they like to burrow. Actually... for that matter... what's the best substrate to use, period? Other than newspapers and paper towels that is. Thanks

Both are fine. The only issue I had with Reptibark is that I couldn't see the poop to clean the viv easily. It kind of blends in with the brown. Other than that, bot are great. If you're feeding in the viv, you might want to stick to paper towel or newspaper to avoid ingestion of substrate.

Alternate Substrate

I actually have a post up right now concerning substrate ("Substrate Question") where I am trying to find some information on "Lizard litter" and whether it can be used for corns. You might want to check it out, I'm on the fence about this product at this moment.

BTW I currently use Repti Bark and would have to agree with Meg and what she's told you about it. I haven't had a problem yet (also don't feed in viv), and I've been using it since June.

I use Shredded Coconut Fiber, Its like earth but holds moisture in better and does not turn into dust. I get three bricks for $10, it lasts me 6 months. The snakes burrow so well in it that you dont see them for a couple of days. The reason you dont see them is I put too much in so they have 2 inches to play with. If you wanted to see your snake all the time then just put 1/2 inch in all over.

i use reptibark as well, and it works really well...besides for the already mentioned problem about having a hard time seeing where the snakes poo

For adults, I have always been an aspen user and I am very happy with it as a substrate.
