Harvesting Maniac
I have potting soil in my terrarium that has previously housed lizards. Do I have to take the soul out? Should I use the bark chips from the bag? What do I do? If I don't have to take out the soil, please tell me because I have several plants in there.:toiletgra

If you're planning to house a new reptile in there you really need to empty and clean the terrarium out properly, so out with the soil and plants is the best bet.

Put the plants in pots, if you want to save them. Corn snakes do best on aspen shavings or paper towels, not soil.

How thick should it be? I don't want to waste aspen shavings by using too much. Are the directions on the bag?

I was told on here last year if you put 3-4" of Aspen you double the surface space for the snake. my .02 susang

I use 2-3 inches of aspen at the minimum. When you clean, you don't throw it all out- you just pick out the spots with poo and refill as necessary.
