I've tried moist mossy hides during shed time and neither my kingsnake or cornsnake seem to like them much. Just the other day my king was cloudy, so I started a daily routine of just spraying a mist of water into the tank. The droplets stick to the grate on the lid, and on the glass on the inside, and provide I'm sure more humidity than an unused shedbox.
Anyway, last evening I saw her doing this thing with her nose, like she was digging for something. I realized she was starting her shed! I watched the entire thing, from eye caps to the very tip of her tail, and it was a perfect, one-piece shed!
I'm kinda new at all this, so it's still fascinating to me. I also think that, when their appetite is good, or I see them going back and forth from warm to cool sides, or they shed perfectly, it feels like I'm providing a good, healthy environment for them. So there's some pride there too.
Anyway, the novelty has probably worn off for most of you on these little things, but it's still exciting to me!
