Most breeders are just now finishing their breeding year for BPs~ I'm just starting. My first clutch of the year is hatching RIGHT NOW! This always so MUCH FUN!!!!

Two clutches are hatching right now~ 11 eggs all together from my pastel male. Only three babies out so far~ but of those three I have two pastels and one normal!

Congrats! That fourth picture is absolutely darling. Very beautiful color on the Pastels. Keep the pictures coming!

Congrats! They are sure adorable! Love the pinks on the pastels! Now, what's the chance of any of the hatchlings having the personailty that Munch has? He was such a mellow fellow! lol

Wow~ thanks for all the nice comments~ I'm very excited about them! So far the first clutch (From Fem1) has completely hatched. 2.1 normals and 1.1 pastels. The 1.0 pastel tried to bite me repeatedly when I popped him. Little spit fire! I'll handle him a little more after his shed and feeding begins so he has a chance of getting a good home! The others all seem pretty mellow (I'm keeping the girl!) but I doubt any will be as sweet as Munch~ he's not related to them and Munch was my first BP~ he has a personality that reflects his constant handling when he was little!

The second clutch (from Anna) is hatching now. Out so far is 1 pastel and 1 normal. 4 more to hatch. The normal is not in good shape though. S/he is nice and fat~ absorbed all the yolk~ but the umbilicus did not close right. Has a HUGE gaping area where his/her umbilicus was that looks like his/her intestines are bulging out. I'm leaving it be for now hoping it will close over night~ but it looks pretty bad.

I'll get more pics and post them tomorrow. I'm so excited about them! I know I have to sell off a lot of snakes before the move~ but I don't think I"ll be able to bring myself to part with the females! If I sell a couple extra of the adult Normal females I can afford to keep the baby pastel females right?!? Well~ thats what I'm telling Scott anyway! (I'm so lucky he is such a good sport about all of this!)

Wow, they're so pink! They look really soft and cuddly...congrats!
Just an fyi in case you hadn't heard this before, but bp's (at least, I'm not sure about other snake breeds) are quite pink when they hatch, which they lose after their first shed. =)

Yes, I know baby BPs often show quite a bit of pink. I'm not basing the determination of which are pastels and which are not on how pink they are. I'm looking at their bellies (pastels have clear bellies) the fading on their heads (the pastels have more fading on the heads) their lips (pastels have white lips) and their eyes (pastels have green or bi-colored eyes).

I didn't know this question was going to come up so I did not take pics of their bellies, lips and eyes~ but you can see the difference between the fading on the heads of the three normals and the two pastels in these pics. I'll try to get pics of the lips, eyes and bellies tomorrow.

This is one of the normals that does happen to have a lot of pink. I'm worried about him because his umbilicus did not close all the way~ but you can also clearly see the marks on his belly around the open umbilicus. S/he is a normal. The umbilicus does look better today than it did yesterday so I am hoping given time it will finish closing.

this next is a pic of that same normal in a deli next to a pastel from the same clutch. In this pic the normal is on top and easier to see than the pastel which is hiding under the normal (I really prefer Wild Type to Normal)

Hope that helps some to explain the differences~ I'll try to get pics of the bellies, lips and eyes.
