The Return of Copperhead

Jessicat

All Pied Everything
..sorry to anyone who was deceived, there are NO Hots in this thread, it IS in the right place. :dancer:

Some (Nanci!) may know who I'm talking about.. it's Copperhead, my ???Motley from Tom Thompson!! We were parted for over a year, and I just got him back from my ex. Yay, it feels great to have a little bit of my collection back.

This guy is a bit of a mystery. His parents are both Butter Motleys, and he is.. well.. not a Butter Motley. My best guesses is that he is an Amel Motley het Caramel or even possibly a Cream Mot.
Here's a thread which goes further into his possible genetics with words from his breeder.
http://www.cornsnakes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=42837

At one point I had a nice Caramel Mot female for him, but she is no longer in my possession. Right now he's just a pet. It would be cool to figure out what he is, but if he IS a cream, I really don't have much interest in breeding him. If anyone has any ideas, let me know what they think. Anyway, here he is during his first photo shoot back with me!!

It was REALLY sunny, and I didn't end up getting the best exposure, but this is the best full body shot I got. And I KNOW how much we all love those... ;)

He's got beautiful eyes. I always look at them and wonder if they are full corn like though.

He was SUCH a good subject. He stayed exactly where I put him to the point of me almost being able to possession his head!

Almost

Unfortunately his head was pretty underexposed in most pictures.

He was being so good though, I just couldn't resist taking more and more pictures!

This little guy was very interested in what we were doing! I didn't even notice him until I'd been taking pictures on that branch for a solid 10 min.

A few more of my beauty

And one more, in the shade, to show Copperhead's colors in a more muted light.

That's it! Hope that people who remember him enjoy this, or even if you don't, hope you liked the pictures! Anyone who has an idea to his genetics, let me know your guess. I am kind of hoping he doesn't have any Emory in him, it just seems unfortunately like the most logical explanation, that one of his parents was really a very light cream instead of a butter. If anyone wants to post Amels or Creams that look like him in this thread for comparison, go for it!

Thanks! :wavey:

Fabulous photos! I hope to get that good one day. Maybe I'm reading too much into reptile expressions but Copperhead's calm demeanor seems to come through in the pictures. He seems very relaxed :)

I figured you'd be happy to see him again, Nanci!

Thanks guys! Yea I think the years have really calmed him. He's very gental and sweet. He's a great converter snake for those who are scared because he's not threatening at all and he's just so pretty!! It feels sooooo good to have him back at home with me!

Gosh, he's beautiful! I am not a good morph guesser but he looks like a light colored butter to me, and I sure HOPE he's pure corn because more like him would be wonderful! And it's great news he has come home to you healthy & happy!

Hello!

So his parents are both butter motleys?

If he were a cream then his parents would carry emoyri-blood in them and the offspring is a kind of throwback?
I think in this case all the siblings would show "hybrid-marks" and not just one... do you happen to know how the siblings look like?

I would rather think of a extra gene that showed up, over here we have a mysterious morph that we call "Auratum":
http://www.farbvarianten.de/viewtopic.php?t=520&highlight=auratum

Odd colored Caramels and Butters, that show more orange-yellow than normal. This morph reproduces as an mendelian trait, so perhaps a similar gene showed up in your case?

All of his siblings looked like normal Butter Motleys. He was the only one that looked odd, he looked like an Amel. His breeder was pretty adamant about no emori blood being involved to his knowledge. One person suggested it and I guess I just jumped to the worst case scenario.

Thanks for the link! I'll have to investigate further, it's very interesting though! I've thought that there must be something going on, the female Butter Mot had only been paired with the male Butter Mot, so retained sperm is out of the question as well. I'll have to see if I can contact Tom and ask him if any other odd balls popped up in his clutches.
