The Runt of the Litter

A few weeks ago I heard an interesting story of a corn that didn't grow.

Apparently these people had a corn for over a year and there was hardly any noticeable growth, with weekly feedings and regular measuring... strange right.

I was just wondering if this was some sort of myth or if any of you breeders or herp lovers with larger collections have ever heard of such a thing, apparently it was a few months old when the first got it and hardly any growth at all. The person who told me about it said that they aren't in contact with the people any more. But, they had several snakes also from the same litter and they grew just fine.

Can anybody shed any light on this???

Cheers guys

Well I know that some people only maintenance feed, and their snakes don't really grow much if that happens. I think small size could be attributed to parasites sucking up all the nutrients too...
I mean some snakes from a clutch are naturally smaller then others but I've never heard of one not growing unless something was wrong or it wasn't eating.

That's what I was thinking... maybe parasites? But wouldn't the entire collection (or AT LEAST one other snake) be experiencing the same thing? Could only one really get parasites and not the rest of them? I suppose it's possible. Were they feeding live? I guess if they got their food from various sources they may have stumbled upon one infected pinky, while the rest of the snakes got clean ones.

Also, I've never heard of it before, but maybe it really had a deformity such as dwarfism or something. Humans have it, why not snakes? You'd think that there would have been another documented case of it before though.

I'm the curious type and if it were me then I would hunt those people down just so I could learn more about it... but I'm weird like that, lol

I have a snake that got away right away as a hatchling, and was out in the cold for whole season. Well over a year.
I found this poor guy in an unattached garage on a bare cement floor at 20F, stiff as a board.
His head shakes when he gets excited, and he doesn't grow very fast.
I've had him for about 10 years and he isn't full grown yet.
He is one of the few snakes that really likes to hang out. I can watch tv with this snake on my lap, and if I fall asleep for 2 hours, he will be there when I wake up. I think he doesn't want to escape anymore.

I have a true runt, El Wray, whose egg was half the normal size. But he was the first in his clutch to eat, and he's nearly tripled in size since I got him!

Yeah, he probably MUCH prefers your warm lap to the thought of ever being that cold again.

I was stuck out in a snow storm once without the proper clothing to protect me. I was cold, wet, and in an awful mood, lol! Needless to say, I hate the cold now. I can't stand being in the snow and I get all dreary as winter sets in.

Yh I got to see how my little guy was doing compared to his clutch mates today needless to say very well.

His clutch mate was having a bad shed by the looks of it and just didnt look in a good mood.

For some reason he had the corners of his mouth open, the centre of his mouth was closed but just the two sides open does anyone know why that might be???

Either way mine was at least double his size and is doing great thanks to the munson plan, the pet shop feeds once a week and take really good care of their stock as far as I can see so I'm not sure what was up with him.
