Thermometer... in/out.. which temp matters?

I ordered a probe thermometer from bigappleherp.com, but can't figure out which temp is correct. I placed the probe right over the substrate above the UTH. There's an "indoor" temp that says 74ish, and an "outdoor" temp that says 84ish... which temp should I pay attention to? I guess I just don't quite get the whole indoor/outdoor thing, since the probe is in the viv. :eek:
