Thermometers

Hey everyone, hows it going? I need to ask a question about thermometers. Alrighty well, I have 2 thermometers for my tank. Both are stick on. Now, my cool side reads 73-77 and my warm side usually tops at 84-87 degrees. The question is, are those good temps? Secondly, are these thermometers accurate at all? I have them stuck on the bottom of the viv on the outside. Now, if these thermometers are not good, would anyone please be able to tell me a make/model number of an indoor/outdoor one I can get at Home Depot? I'm sorry for all these questions, its just that I would like to keep my snake healthy so it can live long.

Also, my snake is usually hiding in its cool hide out most of the time. Firstly is that normal? Secondly, since I fed it yesterday, it hung out by the warm side for a while and then once again went back to its cool hide. How will I know if it regurgatates? Should I check her hides mainly, and then proceed to spot check the rest of the viv? Thanks for your help guys.

By the way, I finally took some pics! Check em out! The first pic is my viv, the second is me holding my snake in my hand, third and fourth is my snake almost done/and done eating the pinkie. I actually couldnt believe it let me snap photos of it while it was eating. Cool! :D

I haven't tried the stick on's for temps gauges, I use these:http://www.reptiledirect.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=562, and I have them in my viv on each side.

I use a UTH / hood light 40watt red light. My warm end is 80 's . My cool end is in the 70's I haven't gotten my tank over 85 in the warm end. The only time that happend was on a warm day. :) I use alot of ambeint temps in my room during the summer.

I keep my UTH on to give them that heat source if they need the warmer temps. At the warm end of the tank.

I haven't had a regurg (knock on wood). I am sure you would smell and could find it if it happend. :)

Cornsnakes do seem to like cooler temps. :) I would not worry if he needs heat he will find it.

You have a nice looking snake grats on your new addition. :)

79-82 in optimal for the warm end

84-87 is a little too warm. 73-77 is fine for the cool end.

Unfortunately those stick on thermometers aren't accurate and are giving you a temp that isn't equal to the temp on the surface where your snake actually lives.

Any model is fine. They also sell them at Wal-Mart and Radio Shak.

Based on your temps, I'd say the snake is in the cooler end because the warm end is too warm. It is normal in the aspect that snakes seek an area in which it is most comfortable.

Trust me, you will know if it regurges! You will likely smell it before you see it. Regurges are not that common, just make sure you don't handle the snake for a couple of days after feeding.

Thank you guys for the response and help! I appreciate it! I am going to look into getting an indoor/outdoor thermometer today. Thanks again!

Also, I noticed that you had the thomos on the outside of the tank. This will give you more of a reading on the temps outside the viv instead inside. Unless you have the thermos that take the temp of the glass.

and i think your cage is to big for a baby corn, cuz they will get stressed and maybe even more aggresive cuz they dont feel safe enough.

a corn can live in a 2.5 gal till it is 1.5 years

hmm did you mean

a corn can live in a 2.5 gal till it is 1.5 years

Typo? 2.5 gallon..

That is way to small for a corn that is a year. 10 gallon or 15 gallon is good for a year. Then move up to a 20 gallon.

Hatchlings can get stressed in a large viv. Alot of hides and furnishing can make a 20 gallon not too scary for a hatchling. It is recommended for a smaller viv size.

I just bought a digtal in/outdoor thermometer (www.maplin.co.uk £7.99 on offer buy one get one free) it is one with the outdoor sensor on a wire, I have the main unit on the cold side of the tank with the spare wire wrapped around the unit and the probe trailing into the warm side, how do you guys hide the wire, should I bury the wire and just ensure the probe is just on the surface to measure belly heat? (I think I just answered my own question whilst typing it out)
