Thermostat

Hi all

Just wondered if there is anyone here that could send me a link to a site to a good thermostat for my Miami Cornsnake.

When i brought my set up the man did not tell me i needed one and just sold me a heat mat.

So if anyone could send me a link to a site with what they use i would really appreciate as after reading some heat mats can get to 40 celcius i have turned mine off so i quickly need to get a thermostat.

Thanks in advance all.

Yes, I got my thermostat from reptilekeeping.net as well. Good service and a good price. The thermostat arrived quickly and in good condition and works great. I would order one from that site. :)

Thanks alot you have just gave the same one as i got pmed from Ssthisto so thanks you 2.

Just a few questions sorry to be a pain i just so angry the pet shop never told me to get this and i just want to make sure i am setting it up right.

So i have my heat mat and am now ordering a thermostat and a digital thermometer so i can monitor inside and outside the cage.

1.Now i have my heatmat outside my Miami Cornsnakes box just underneath him so do i put the sensor for the thermostat and digital thermometer under the box too just on top of the heat mat or do i put the sensors inside the box right at the bottom under the substrate.

2.Or do i have to put the heatmat inside.I never done this as i read they can burn thereself on it and i undersstand that if you have a thermostat this should not happen but i am worried incase it fails.

3.As i don't have a thermostat i have turned the heat mat off until it comes monday or tuesday. Will my Miami Cornsnake be ok till then if not i will drive around and see if i can find one tomorrow.

Sorry for all the questions guys and girls i just love my Miami Cornsnake so much and would hate to cause him any harm because of faults on my part.

many thanks all and believe me your advice is greatly appreciated.

Jamie

Thanks Plissken.

Do you keep the probe of your thermostat and thermometer under the substrate above the mat or underneath on the mat.

many thanks

With a little editing you answered your own question :D

You should be okay to turn the heat mat off for a day or two until the thermostat arrives assuming it's not freezing cold over there. Personally, if I was going to turn the UTH off I wouldn't plan on feeding unless the temps are at least in the upper 70's. Feeding might go perfectly well with no problems even below 80F, but I would rather not risk it, if it were me. If it's only going to be a couple of days, he/she can wait to eat.

1) I have the probe inside her tank under the substrate as this were the snake comes incontact with.

3) She should be fine for a couple of days, mine was fine. Aslong as it not freezing were you are and in the range of Corn temps she should be fine for a short time. For example down were i am its between 22-26 degrees so she was ok for a couple days. It just means ur snake cant thermoregulate. Surgest you dont try and feed her and leave her alone until u get the thermostat.

I'm new to Corn snake keeping like you so this is just from my experiance so far. But my corns settled down nicley so i think i'v done right so far.

Thanks for your help all.

My bedroom has all dark curtains and dark carpet so it seems to hold the heat and is always really hot so i think he will be fine.

As for feeding i was gonna ask in the feeding forum but as we are on the subject i will just ask in here.

I brought the snake on Thursday and the pet shop ownder siad he was last fed on monday but told me to give him till atleast this monday coming to settle in adn then feed him on thursday or friday does this seem ok to you guys or does it seem to long. From what i have read feeding seems to be between 5-7 days but come thursday it will be 10.

If that's ok then it will be fine as i getting the thermostat monday or tuesday depending on delivery so it will be all nice and warm for feeding day.

Once again thanks all

jamie

Snake can go quite a while without food anyway so waiting 10 days till a feed instead of 7 is'nt really that much of a issue as a once off event. Mine went 9 days due to the pet shop being closed when i went down there and not being able to go back till a few days after. I would'nt worry but again i'm not a expert but from what i read a few days off does'nt matter.

Yep, you'll be fine waiting 7-10 days before feeding. The pet shop actually gave you some pretty solid advice when they told you to let him settle in before feeding. 7 days may even be a bit on the long side for settling in. Most members would suggest 3-5 days to let a new corn adjust before offering a first meal (usually because 3-5 days is all we can stand before we just have to get them out to see them:D ), but 7-10 days should be fine as well.

Thanks alot and although it is a pet shop the owner is pretty cool.

He ain't in it for the money he loves snakes and if he knows you ain't got any experience he won't sell you anything big or dangerous.

He had a famous footballer demanding that he wanted this Snake i can't remember what it was now but it was a gorgeous bright yellow snake and was like £5000 but the owner said i don't care who you are you have not got the experience to have this snake.

It's nice to see some people care about Animals and ain't just in the job to make money.

I know you have already bought one but if you need another try ebay. This seller is brilliant blueschmink I recently bought a pulse proportional day/night thermostat for £30 including postage brand new. I bought it friday night and it arrived Monday morning.
