I do. Right now I'm using some cheap Zilla 1000 watt thermostats. They work well for the price. I got a couple of them on eBay for around $25 shipped.
I think the best would be the Proportional Thermostats, like the Helix. I'm waiting to upgrade my thermostats until I upgrade my caging and racks though.
I did start right away with thermostats but I did start with the cheaper zilla thermostats that had the temperature gauge on them and I think maybe the zoomed that didn't have any number listed just high to low. To be honest they worked just fine once you dialed them in. I actually had about 12 seperate tanks and 12 separate thermostats before I went to racks. Now I use those original therms as back ups to my helix and my herpstats. There is quite a bit of opinion between the helix and herpstat and I have my opinion but it isn't for this thread. I heard others use a dimmer switch as a great inexpensive route but I never did go that way. Please use something to control your UTH for safety.
I use a Herpstat ND (proportional) thermostat. I specifically went for that model because of the high/low alarms although it has several nice features. It is on the pricey side but I felt it was better to spend a bit more up front for a better quality item, especially since it will be constantly in use.
I also have the Herpstat. I love it! I tried a rheostat, bad news! Don't waste your money, I returned mine. I also tried a dimmer switch, worked better but the room my snake is in varies in temperature a lot. The Herpstat is a set it and forget it!
