Thermostats

Looking into getting a thermostat to regulate my UTH. Looking for input on best place to purchase. The only pet store around that sells them has one for $52, but I know I've seen previous posts with ones in the 35 dollar range. Should I stick with per store, tool supply store like Home Depot or online for a thermostat? Also brands that you've enjoyed and have had success with versus brands you haven't liked would be nice too. Thank you! [emoji2]

Also my digital probe under substrate on heated side had been steady at 85.8 degrees F. Do I need to invest in a thermostat since it's been steady at that temp?

Thermostats are very very important! Even if your temps are really good, there could be a malfunction or something. I use the Hydrofarm thermostat and I bought it on Amazon for 28 dollars. I know lots of other members use it as it is cheap and known to work well.

The way my setup works is I place the thermostat probe between my UTH and tank and I set that temperature to 103. That makes the inside glass on the bottom of my viv 88 and the top of my substrate (paper towel) 85 degrees. The only thing is I would not recommend using the thermostat probe to double as a thermometer because it will never be as accurate (unless you buy an expensive one) as the digital probe IMO. So when you get it you have to do some experimenting because if for example you want the inside of your tank on the bottom to be 85.8 you might have to set your thermostat to 90 (just for example).

Good luck and let us know what you decided!

Thanks for the input! I will be ordering one either today or tomorrow. For now closely monitoring and unplugging UTH if I need as I noticed it got up to 92 earlier

Sounds good!

If you are worried about the temp getting too hot in the night, just leave the UTH unplugged. Your snake will be okay if slightly cool for one night (rather than potentially getting burned).
