Thinking of getting a 'second hand' corn

Hi All

I have been looking at getting a corn for some time and have been doing plenty of reading etc.

I was going to get a new young one but I have seen a 'second hand' (don't know what else to call it!) one advertised for £60 for the snake and all the kit.

The snake is about 4 years old and I hope to see it tomorrow.

Couple of questions - if anyone has any advice / opinions they would be appreciated.

1) Is getting a second hand snake a good idea. The owner (well the owner's mother) seems genuine. Apparently her son is just not looking after it any more and she wants it to go to a better home.

2) If I go and see the snake what should I look for in particular to make sure its healthy?

3) Assuming I went ahead and got the snake what should I do to help it settle in and get used to its new surroundings and owners.

Thanks all for your time.

well "second hand" snakes CAN be better.. if there older.. there more established already feeding well Ect.. When you go Look at him make sure theres no Mites. discharge from the nostrils. Eyes are not sunk (Dehydration) he Looks Alert. if all seems good.. id say go ahead and get it.. Sometimes a "used" snake is better for a Begginer :)

good luck with whatever you decide to do.

There's nothing wrong with getting a "second hand" snake. I just got one myself last weekend. A 5 year old retired breeder corn. Make sure you ask the former owner as much as you can about its prior history. If its eating well, when it last shed, that sort of thing. When I got mine, I knew ahead of time that he had an old injury, and also that he was off food for spring, so I knew what to expect.

Thanks

for the replies - we're going to try and see him (her?) tonight. We lked the idea of a new snake but it seems a shame that there's an unhappy snake already out there that needs a good home.

I'll let you know how i get on - there's bound to be more questions if / when we get him.

Just go give it a good home! It's grat to have an adult snake and to be able to admire their strenght. It will only feed your upcoming corn addiction!

Looking at some of the cornography on this site I can feel the addicition starting already. I was going to go for a Sinaloan Milk but some of the corns on this site are simply stunning.

I am almost definitely going to go the 'second hand' route. However, I have been offered one by another seller and I think I'm going to take this one instead. He seems a lot more knowledgable about his snake and has offered support and advice as and when I need it. I'd love to take them both and I hate having to choose between but the wife has put her foot down  + if the first one is in bad way I'd rather have someone experienced rescue it.

I'll post some photo's in the appropriate area once I have him.
