Hello again, all! I just thought I would share, since everyone here has been so great about answering my questions!
I did go to pick up my "one corn snake" the last weekend in August...and it did somehow change into me arriving back home with three corn snakes, hehe, as many of you predicted.
I got a male granite (Boris Dragosani), a female granite (Greer), and a bloodred female (Hester) from Michelle of Creatures of the Night, who has been great during my "first snakes!" experience. They are adorable little hatchlings; nobody warned me they would be this cute!
They were "due" for a feeding the day after I got them, but I let them settle in for a good solid three days to settle into their respective vivs just to be safe. I fed them last Wednesday, and they each took their pinkie like a little trooper and gobbled it down very quickly. (The little fellow immediately started looking around for more, I think, but I didn't want to push my luck the first time.)
I held my breath for three days while they hid...they all emerged to "cruise" for a bit on Friday night, which I took as a good sign, but I didn't bother them until Saturday night. I was delighted to discover that all three feedings (and the resulting other-end nonsense) went just fine! Cleaned out the cages, weighed the cuties (9, 8, and 9 grams, respectively) and popped 'em back in their little homes.
So, I know this is probably just amusing prattling to all of you experienced owners, but I'm thrilled! Today is feeding day #2 and I am less stressed about it now that one has gone well.
In addition to that, the fiance, who was not "sold" on the "snake thing," as he refers to it, is coming around. He thinks they're pretty nifty little creatures, and has taken interest in their schedules and habits and weights and whatnot...he is also a photography nut and has mentioned several times that he is already planning to use them as wee models when they're a bit more settled in. I'm pleased, because I have lots of "plans" for more snakes in the future, so it is nice that he is sort of interested, too. At least not protesting!
He's also a tech geek and ordered me a really nifty setup from Smarthome that he plans on modifying for the vivs...basically a gradient/adjusting thermostat that connects into the "brain" of the house (a computer software suite that runs our lights and heating and computer servers, etc) and that will not only keep the temperatures within set ranges using my UTH's but that will also email/text message me with any warnings on temperatures leaving those specs or other apparent errors in the setup. Sounds like it will work nicely!
Next thing you will all have to sit through is me going on and on about their first sheds with me, I'm sure! And I know you all like pictures, so I will get some as soon as we can.
Thanks again, all!
