Tiawan beauty question

I just inquired about some beauty babies advertised online locally for $50. Can anyone fill in any blanks on their need differences from corns. I fell in love with one the same time I bought Simon but had no experience with anything more then a garter. Now that I've had a few years with Simon I want to try my hand at a beauty! A couple days in the dog house is worth it to me!lol:crazy02:

Taiwan Beauties are great snakes. Much more active than a corn snake. Very aware of everything in the room. They will come to the glass and watch you whenever you come in. They grow much bigger than a corn, 8 to 10’ long.

They are semi arboreal and like to climb. They like a little more humidity than corns. I can’t think of anything else right off the top of my head.

What Wade said is some very good information. Another thing I would also say is watch your fingers during feeding time. They have awesome feeding responses!

They need big enclosures, to start. Asian rat snakes as a rule are very active snakes. The bigger you can go, the better. They like height, and will utilize it readily. As Wade said, they get big... They're strong, too, and have a decent bite on them.

Their heat requirements seem to be about the same as a corn. Maybe a little cooler, but don't quote me on that. My girl seems to be happy with her ~83*F warm side.

Thanks for the quick response guys. I respect your experience and appreciate the help. Is there any good in-depth info on them?

Are they generally aggressive or just very active? would you happen to have any pics you cold share?

This is one of mine. I don't think they are aggressive. Mine have never stuck at anyone. Sometimes they act like they are going to bite, but never have.

I'd say it depends on the snake. Mine is a total... erm... She hates people and thinks everything is food, let's put it that way. The only time she isn't trying to eat everything that comes near her face is when she's in blue, and then she hisses up a storm until you put her back... However, I know other members on this site have docile Beauties.

Here's some pictures of my girl. She acts pretty friendly when there's a sheet of glass between her and everything else... And there's no food present... ;)

I some how knew you would have photos!!!lol Thanks Wade and might I say he/she is a real beaut!!!:)

This was the first beauty I had. When she was in blue, she'd always turn into a mini-anaconda.

And yes, they really are pretty arboreal.

AAAW! I love that baby pic!!! I hope this guy replies soon!!!I really want one and $50 is one sweet deal!!

My taiwan is great. He is pushing 5'5 or so and he is a late 2007. His parents were both over 9 foot! He has sani chip bedding a huge water bowl and his tub measures 3x2x2. He SLAMS weaned rats every 10 or so days. They have fast metabolisims and need frequent feedings. I love asian rats as a whole so I am biased in saying that the genus Othriophis is amazing! Here is a pic of my guy today! He just shed this morning

These sure are pretty but I think they are a little too active for my taste at the moment (no room for the big vivs!). Yours is looking great, David, and the baby is astoundingly cute, Robbie!

Beautiful snake! Thanks for the pics.I caught a couple of your vids on youtube looking for these wonderful creatures! I still haven't received any response from the guy selling them but i'll be keeping my fingers crossed!

TBS

I have a 8 year old TBS who is pushing just around/over 7 feet. She is an absolute doll MOST of the time. When she is cranky or knows food is abound... watch out! As most people said on here... feeding response. They lose their minds when they sense a rodent (are decide something looks close enough to a rodent... such as your hand in some cases). With that warning out of the way... now to the good stuff. Asian beauties are by far one of my favorite types of snakes. They are some of the smarter snakes I've spent time around. They do watch EVERY thing and must check out everything when out of their enclosures. We keep ours in a 120 gallon and I feel she could use more climbing room still. So make sure you give them plenty of space... they will use it. They are a snake that stays very very interesting as they love interaction (in our's case at least most of the time) For a colubrid they are a very powerful snake. Best of luck if you get one! If you like lively snakes that keep you on your toes... this is the one to get!
