I've already gotten so much from the forums that I'm hoping to be able to give a little something back. I'm using a lamp dimmer to regulate my UTH. I got that idea from the forums.
When I got the dimmer, it took a few days to get it set right, prior to buying a snake. After a few days of trying and realizing how touchy it could be, I decided to wrap a zip tie around the dimmer very tightly. Now, I can slide the tight zip tie short distances to make finer adjustments and "lock" them in. This allows the dimmer to be turned off and slid right back up to the correct spot. You could also put one on the bottom of the switch to give you the high & low limits of the temp range and unplug it to turn it off.
I am still checking the temperature constantly but it will make any small adjustment easier when the weather changes. Another advantage it that the dimmer can't get accidentally bumped too high. Maybe everyone is already doing something like this but from what I've been reading, I think this will come in handy for someone. I hope so. I took the picture with my phone so it's not great but you get the point.
