Tips on shipping corn snakes to out of state buyers?

Corn snakes rule!
Okay so, I'm a certified shipper through FedEx but I've never actually sent anyone a snake before yet. I haven't had the opportunity too up to this point. But now I have more babies this year and have a person in Florida and one person in California who are wanting to buy from me. I just need a reminder on the steps and instructions on how to ship them safely to those two people.
Also, the one in California is wanting to buy 5 of the babies that I have and I don't know how much of a deal to give the person. Or if that is even something that I should do? I'm originally selling each for $30.00. And not sure about shipping as far as the rate goes I checked a quote and it was 84.00 dollars to send to his zip code but that was for one baby, not five.
Any tips and suggestions on how I might go through with this would be very very helpful.....

Thanks!

As far as the discount goes, that's entirely up to you. I would probably give them to that person for an even $200 shipped (that's like buy 4, get one free). I'm surprised FedEx isn't giving you some sort of discount. That's probably the most expensive shipping rate I've ever seen.

When shipping hatchlings, you want to make sure that they're not only snug in their (taped shut) deli cups, you want to make sure that the cups are snug in the center of the box to avoid shifting during shipping. Don't forget the styrofoam insulation, and holes are not needed in the box.

The words "Live Harmless Reptile" needs to be written on the box, and underneath that, you can put
[# of animals] Pantherophis g. guttatus [or just cornsnakes, if you feel more comfortable with that]

Inside of the box, I've always put their feeding/shed records, as well as an invoice. If your animals are ACR registered, include their numbers/certificates in the box so the new owners can register the snakes.

EDIT: I'm almost positive I've forgotten a thing or two. I'm quite tired at the moment, but I'm sure someone will come along behind me and fill in the blanks.

Thank you so much. I will include shed records...and I am Registered with the ACR but for some reason my babies records are still pending even though it's been over a week since I added them to the ACR. I wanted to ask more like what you suggested 200 for all 5 of them but I gave him a better deal then that. I asked 85.00 dollars for 5 hatchlings plus the shipping.
Do you know how pay pal works? I have one set up but never have used it before. How do I recieve and take the money out when I do recieve it? Thanks again!

With PayPal, if you have a PayPal debit card, you have access to the money immediately. Otherwise, once you transfer to your bank, it takes anywhere between 3-5 business days for the funds to clear into your account. I absolutely love my PayPal debit card, and wish I could just get my paycheck direct deposited into there so I could get the cash back on everything.

I'm trying to apply for the Paypal debit card but seem to be having problems and I currently don't have a checking account with a bank. My old one was closed because of a long time without activity. I'm going to go open a new bank account later today. And see if that will work. Thanks again for your help!

Ah. Yeah, they won't let you have the debit card unless you have a linked checking account (otherwise you won't be able to get your money at all (0_o)).

I have a picture thread down in my personal forum about how to pack snakes for shipping.

That sounds typical for shipping to CA. CA is Zone 8 for me- it might be one or two zones closer for you.

Look at the overnight temps in Memphis and your destination to decide if you need heat packs or not. I don't use heat if both places are say 50-55 or warmer. I start thinking about ice packs when the high in Memphis is 80.

On the heat pack, make sure you tape it on the right way. I sent a snake once and later realized I put the heat pack on wrong. I was very worried! Turned out ok fortunately.

Assuming you use the same kind I did - I forget the brand.
