to heat or not to heat?

Hi, I'll be getting my new baby on thursday, and I'm curious about temperature. I have a UTH, but my thermostat is still in the mail. It's been pretty hot in my house lately (80's at least) and I was wondering if it would be best to leave the heater off until my thermostat arrives? It would probably only be a couple days after the snake arrives. I just don't want him to overheat from an unregulated UTH, but on the other hand I don't know if he'll be ok without an extra heat source for a few days? Any advice would be appreciated!

Leave the heat off until your thermostat arrives. Don't feed for a week after you got the snake. If your thermostat hasn't arrived in one week, and your house temp doesnt fall below 80, it's okay to feed at that point.

As long as your snake isn't digesting, he's fine down to 65 or so, so no worries about no heat.

No worries, the thermostat should be here long before the week is up, I ordered it almost a week before I ordered the snake. So, as long as I have the thermostat set up before feeding time it should be fine? My first snake, I just wanna make sure he's safe and happy. :D

Yes, as long as the thermostat is set up before feeding time you're fine. I'd still hold back on food until the snake is settled in. However, I have fed many snakes the same day after getting them with no negative consequences. Especially under fed rescues.

I believe my thermostat also displays current in-tank temps, so I don't have a separate thermometer. Also, I fully intend on waiting a week to let my snake adjust before handling or feeding him. :)

Except, how do you know your thermostat is accurate? I have $140 thermostats and they are still monitored with a separate thermometer.

A Temp Gun is a great $30 investment. Especially if you have, or are planning on having more than one tank.

They are very accurate and you can spot check multiple tanks in minutes...
