Toilet (Bathtub)Training

Hi There;
Okay, You probably think I'm of my rocker now, but is it possible to train a snake to use the tub has his toilet. Twice now I've stuck my Simon in the tub while cleaning his viv and both times he has used it has his personal toilet. I have to say it is a lot easier to clean the tub, and give him a little bath after words. I use luke warm water and then straight back to his viv to keep warm. Is it hust a fluke or can it be done. I'm going to try for a third time in 3-4 days.

I did manage to train my sons iguana to use only the tub to go.

The water stimulates bowel movements in corns. If you have a constipated snake, most will suggest letting them soak in the tub...and it works like a charm. It's just a natural reaction, not some sort of training.

You can be trained to put the snake in water and wait till it poos before handling it, but if you're late and the snake has to go, it isn't going to wait for you! So, like Isabel the dragon, while this is a handy way to avoid cleaning up the viv, you really can't depend on it. Careful with the water temp- you don't want to exceed 80F, which will feel cool to you. It should not feel warm at all.

I wouldn't call it toilet training, but I know what you're talking about. My snake had a habit of pooping on certain people's hands, so I tried putting her in a shallow bowl with water a couple times before letting other people handle her. I wouldn't take her out until she pooped. After a few times she seemed to enjoy the swim and the temperature and would always poop.
So yeah, it stimulates them to poop, but its just a reaction. Useful though :]

I would test the water with a digital thermometer. As Nanci said water needs to be 80f. I tested the water with my hand/elbow and it felt luke warm but when i put the probe in from the thermometer it was 94f.

I'll use a thermometer for sure, I should've realized that their skin is so much more sensitive then ours. Thanks to all for the info. Now I can tell my husband I'm not crazy.
I have proof.

I do it. 2-3 days after feeding. TEST the water, super important, And make sure you havent used any chemicals in the tub. Make sure there is a place for them to set above the water. Like a rock or shallow end per say. Also like mentioned before it helps but poo happens and not always on schedule.
