Transport?

How should I transport my 17 inch hatchling and my 3 foot ghost?
Going home for Christmas. 1.5 hour car ride. They are in 10 and 20 gallon aquariums. Should I take them out and pillow case them for the ride? Or could I leave them in the tanks and just take out the decors?

Tied pillowcase for the three-footer (with the pillowcase then put in a cardboard box to avoid drafts), Cool Whip container with holes punched in the lid for the hatchling. Either keep the interior of the car warm during the drive or put both the pillowcase and the CoolWhip tub inside a box with some crumpled newsprint for insulation. In the future, purchase appropriately sized Sterlite containers for them. Sterlite 6-quart shoeboxes work for almost any corn under two years old.

1 Adam 12, 1 Adam 12, we have an all points bulletin on a 3' Ghost Cornsnake. He is to be considered armed and dangerous! (armed? :shrugs: ) He is wanted for car jacking and theft of frozen mice. Be aware that he may have an accomplice. Please use caution when approaching as he may hiss and rattle his tail. The snake was last seen heading south down the interstate in a '98 Ford Taurus wagon.... :sidestep:

:roflmao: that is classic :roflmao:

LOL Great way to start the morning! :) Personally, when I transported my two from Arizona to Illinois, I spent a couple of bucks on a critter keeper. They felt more comfortable to me than a deli cup or tupperware, but that was me :)

I just transported my corn snake home for winter break, a 2 hour drive. I just set the 20 gallon tank on my lap with the snake in it and turned the heat up in the car. It worked fine and now he is sitting in my room at home. I also put a blanket over most of the tank so it was dark inside.

LOL! That was too funny!

Seriously, though, I am still in summer mode and was thinking how hot it gets in a car, and how quickly it gets that hot. I know an idiot who killed his ball python by taking her to the beach (no shade in sight) and leaving her in the car all afternoon.

I suppose, though, that in winter, it could get too cold just as quickly.

:grin01: . . . and of course, I am in full fledged winter mode, so was envisioning them stopping at a gas station, car running, stepping inside to get something to drink or eat . . . and :wavey: there goes the snakes making their great escape!! :roflmao: How would that be for a "Help! My snake escaped." thread!!

Sorry about that Drizzt, send me your address and I will ship you a box of baby wipes and a roll of paper towels. Just couldn't help myself. All I could picture was these 2 snakes trying to make a run for it. One behind the wheel while the other was using the gas and brake pedals on the floor. Really didn't mean to make coffee come out your nose.....lol. (I know it didn't come out your nose...................did it? :grin01: )

I hauled mine 2,000 miles across the country. Put them all in rubbermaid tubs, just large enough to fit them with aspen substrate. Worked just fine. I insulated them with moving blankets and I'd put water in at night when we stopped at the hotels....Mine ranged in size from 3 month old hatchlings to 4 ft. adults. They traveled for 5 days, so yours will do fine for an hour and a half.
