Trying to figure out what gene's I should start with

Okay...

So, I think I have an idea of what I want my END result to be... but I'm not sure exactly how to get there.

I'm wanting to start with a 2.3 group of corns initially I think

I'm quite attracted to light coloured/pink/grey/silver snakes with little or no pattern. I saw a picture someone posted (this guy http://www.cornsnakes.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1132535#post1132535) of a vanishing pattern lavender stripe and totally fell in love, so that's the sort of idea that I think I'd like to end up. (at least to start!) I also really like snopals as well...

So for snopals, I know in the end I need Anery, Amel, and Lavender

I see alot of lavs with Hypo, which according to the Morph guide lightens the colors? That might be good too?

Suggestions? comments? Pictures??? Ideas??

I think I'm just needing to bounce around some ideas to really get a good handle on what I'd like to start with so I maximize my space (and budget lol)

I'm gonna get my first babies from Rebecca at Triple R since she's just down the province from me :p This is a list from what she has available that sort of stuck out for me. shes got others too that maybe i havent thought of?

http://www.cornsnakes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=95583

1.0 Lavender het hypo ph Stripe
0.2 Lavender het Hypo, Stripe ph Amel
3.3 Normal het Hypo, Lavender, Stripe ph Amel
3.2 Normal Stripe het Hypo, Lavender ph Amel
1.3 Snow
2.0 Snow Stripe
1.0 Diffused ph Hypo Lavender

5.3 Blizzard

(The blizzard is on there cause I've seen some I really like and I'm intrigued by some of the Lav/Charcoal combos I've seen)

Someone help me decide!! LOL

So you are wanting to end up with a snopal? or something like it I am gathering?

in lavenders usually hypo seems to lighten and sometimes add color to the lavender, but I have seen some amazing looking lavenders without hypo. However, ifyou add amel to the mix amel will usually mask hypo and unless both parents are homozygous recessive for hypo you might not know which amel babies have hypo and which don't.

In the list you provided what I personally would probably do I would probably grab one or both of the lavender het hypo stripe ph amel females. Then if you want you could grab the 1.0 lavender het hypo ph stripe and see if the stripe proves out or not (I love hypo lav stripes by the way, one of my favorite combos). And maybe grab a 1.1 pair from either the normal het hypo lav stripe ph amel or stripe het hypo lav ph amel mixes (I would probably grab the stripe het hypo lav ph amel ones because if one parent is stripe, and the other is het stripe you have a theoretical 50% hatch rate of stripes....if both parents are just het stripe you have a theoretical 25% hatch rate of stripes)

Just remember that if amel does prove out, it may be hard or impossible to distinguish whether a particular amel has hypo or not. And remember the more hets you are working with rather than homozygous recessive animals the less your chances of getting an egg/snake with that ultimate het+het+het+het combo you want.

Thanks for the reply hun! Do you have any pictures of a Hypo Lavender Stripe?? I like the sound of that... I def want lav stripes, and eventually snopals. I wonder what a hypo snopal stripe would look like... is that even possible??

Certainly not in the first generation I know!

I think you would like hypo lavender stripes even if you didn't get vanishing. From what I have read, vanishing is very difficult to selectively breed for. Good luck!! Hypolav stripes are going to be quite pink, especially males. Lavender stripes are going to be steely blue gray. I've seen an adult male hypolav stripe in person, and it was a very amazing snake, one of the most beautiful snakes I have ever seen. Opal stripe will be very pale peach or pink, nearly patternless. Or rather, the pattern will be almost impossible to distinguish.

Whoo thanks Nanci, defenitely gives me something to focus on to begin with and sounds like a really cool project!

Thanks you guys :)
