Tube Hide and Feeding

Hi all
I decided to try a new hide for Avatar. I taped a couple papertowel tubes together and buried them with aspen. Avatar loves the new hide. Unfortunately, it makes it hard to get her out to feed. I took her out tonight and she was VERY angry. As soon as I got her out of the tank she hissed and lunged for my face. Very unusual for Avatar. I think it was because I had to turn the hide upside down to get her out.
With the other hides I would just turn it over and scoop her up as she made a break for it.

Any Ideas?
 
I have paper towel rolls in Nagini's cage. I cut small holes along the tube so I could more easily get him out. When it comes to feeding if he's in the tube I will move the tube into the feeding box and place the pink at the hole closest to him. Doesn't take him much time to figure out what's going on :D. Good luck!
 
With the ordeal I go through with a few of mine from time to time when I go to get them out, it's surprising they don't lunge at me! They act all calm, but as soon as you make contact they freak and in the blink of an eye their entire tub is in disarray.

Like you mentioned, it may just be an isolated incident. Maybe you just woke her up from a good snooze. Or maybe it was that you turned her upside down. :rolleyes: :)
(Is it legal to use two smilies back to back like that? :shrugs: :sidestep: )
 
wouldn't it be better to cut the paper tube in half so it's still a hide but you can pick it up and get to your snake easily?

i would think that repeated stress and negative feelings about you "coming for them" would create a not so pleasant experience for you both in the end.
