turning heat pad off in high temps

Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone turns off their UTH's when their weather gets too hot? I noticed a few days ago in my girl's tank the temp was creeping towards 90 since we've been having a few very hot days here in NYC. But it's cooled off some, and without it the inner temp of her tank has stayed between 80 and 85.

Thoughts?

Most people in warmer environment turn theirs off when it gets hot. With the temps you listed, I would definitely turn it off until cooler temps arrive.

If she's a yearling or older, and your nighttime room temp doesn't drop below 78ish, that's fine. For a hatchling, I wouldn't want them to drop below 82 or so.

I would still watch it for the couple days after feeding, just in case. When she's not digesting, it doesn't matter.

Yes, keep an eye on the ambient temp of the room. I didn't think about it and turned all my UTHs off a few weeks ago (it gets to be 95° at night) and we don't keep the AC on all the time except on Jim's days off when he is home most of the day, and I was perplexed by the attitude of two of my newbies. I gave them their week to settle in, but they both wanted a piece of me and were just hatelings.

Then I thought about how cool it was in the rooms they were in, and looked at the digital thermometers and they were all at 75°! No wonder everyone is pissy and weird, they were so cold! I spent 1/2 hour running around like a mad woman finding all the things I needed but hadn't yet organized, now everyone has a UTH and should be happy. Live and learn, but I don't know why I don't consider the simplest things!

Ever heard of a regulator? Hot spots are OK at 90 not the whole terrarium. Does your house have AC? I didn't read your whole post.

I also live in ny, but i live on long island and the temps have been bad this year either we are getting temps of 85 to 90 or they drop to 65 to 70 so i don't turn off the uth. I leave the ceiling fan on when it gets hot and it keeps the uth from going on and lowers the ambient temp in the room, so far its working fine. I don't use the ac in the room with the viv, the room is too small and it gets too cold. my concern is the humidity levels, there are some days that are 8o% and since my humidity gage is the one i use for my chick incubator, i know its accurate, should i find a way to lower it or is it ok for the short term. Gracie seems comfortable, not striking anymore, eating well, and out exploring more.
