Twins!!

Charlie

Too Far Gone
Well, these two hatched out of my Caramel 66% het amel x Normal het amel. Not only did this clutch prove out my male 100% het amel but I got TWINS.

Do you know if there are any problems with either of them?

They certainly look normal enough from those pictures. Except for the fact that they're coming out of the same egg.

Congrats then.

So far, they are just like their bothers and sisters. The only thing facing them is they are about twice as small as their siblings. But when you share growing space, you aren't going to be as big.

that is awesome! id definitely like to learn more about breeding, maybe some day me and my girlfriend will have a few snakes breeding like you guys! this site is gonna help me out alot

Normal and Amel!!!!!

That is soooo cool. I think that this is the first that I have seen this. You would think that in one egg they would be the same colour.

Thanks for sharing.... Jimmy C.

oh wow! they both look lik such cuties.
let us know how they are and piccies please once they fully emerge?
:)

Hey!!!

Congrats. Weird that one is amel and one is normal. I got twins this year too. They were both tiny, but are eating and growing nicely. In fact, one of them is a total pig.

That is incredibly awesome, Charlene. A hearty congratulations to thee! I hope they grow up perfectly healthy.

If they are brother and sister out of the same egg, they are fraternal twins, but what about them being different colors?

Also, because the gene for having twins passes down from generation to generation, I imagine some people might find them quite desireable. I've just had my first clutch of eggs hatch over the last week, so I've a lot to learn about breeding for morphs.

Anyway, I certainly hope you took a lot more photos of this (I imagine) rare event.

Erik

Twins

See this is why I asked on the other thread whether the two snakes were identical or not. The embryos are there first, then the shell is formed over them. Sometimes you have two embryos that get stuck in the same egg. :) That is just so totally awesome. Of course that amel might have snuck into the other's egg while you weren't looking...just to mess with your head. J/K :)

I've had a few sets of twins over the years, but I've never actually seen them hatching. I always end up counting 16 hatchlings and only 15 empty egg shells! Congrats on the twins AND being able to preserve the event on "film"!

I did some research on this recently, and I had believed the same thing, but the info I found said that this has not been proven. That is, there's no "twinning" (or predisposition to twinning) gene known to exist.

It is interesting that they're fraternal twins. This is the first case I've seen where they were not the same morph. I had a pair of amels (presumably identical twins) hatch out in 2003. It's neat to get twins but at the same time it sucks that they hatch out SO tiny. ;) I hope yours thrive for you. :D
