These are 2 articles i found on yahoo, i wasnt sure i could post them but here it goes..

Huge python makes a meal of 11 guard dogs

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 26 (Reuters Life!) - Guard dogs protecting a fruit orchard in Malaysia have met their match -- a 7.1-metre-long (23-ft-long) python that swallowed at least 11 hounds before it was finally discovered by villagers.

"I was shocked to see such a huge python," orchard-keeper Ali Yusof told the New Straits Times in an article published beneath a picture of the captured snake, which was almost long enough to span the width of a tennis court and as thick as a tree trunk.

Villagers did not harm the snake, which was tied to a tree then handed to wildlife officials, the paper said on Friday.

Snakes help soothe the joints at spa

TALMEY EL'AZAR, Israel, Jan 25 (Reuters Life!) - Hold the Dead Sea salts and tea-tree oil. An Israeli health and beauty spa has introduced a new treatment to its menu -- snake massage.

For 300 shekels ($70), clients at Ada Barak's spa in northern
Israel can add a wild twist to their treatment by having six non-venomous but very lively serpents slither and hiss a path across their aching muscles and stiff joints.

"I'm actually afraid of snakes, but the therapeutic effects are really good," customer Liz Cohen told Reuters Television as Barak let the snakes loose on her body.

Barak uses California and Florida king snakes, corn snakes and milk snakes in her treatments, which she said were inspired by her belief that once people get over any initial misgivings, they find physical contact with the creatures to be soothing.

I'd be willing to bet that much the same as when someone pets a cat or dog, slithering a snake through one's hands has _got to_ lower the blood pressure. it is _so_ relaxing.

Did say that the dog were eatten at the same time. For a snake that large, I would thinks 11 dogs are enough for a year.

I was thinking the same initially, but then I thought, the snake is only 23 feet long, and dogs are probably a couple feet themselves, and if swallowed all at once, at least one dog's butt would be left sticking out of the python's mouth yet...:p So, my mind instantly rationalized that it had to have been over a period of time & not all at once...;)

Hey, Cursed_Witch, I think it's totally fine to post articles here -- I've done it a couple of times myself. :) But, just a future possible thought: link the article to the originating website (fyi, just in case, use the little button with the world/chain link to do that...it's great!)...you know, in case there are any good photos. I always like to look at the photos when I read. ;)

My hubby linked me these articles yesterday and the thing that struck me was...king snakes and corns/milks together? Um, kings eat those breeds of snakes and from what I've read here, if corns, at least, smell a kingsnake, they get stressed because they smell predator?

Sooo...you've got stalking and scared snakes slithering over you?
:sidestep:

Or am I wrong about the prey/predator thing here?

Err... um... well, it didn't say they were used ALL at once... just that she used those particular snakes.

If she does use them all at once (at the same time) I want front row tickets when the snake phobic is up for his or her turn and the snakes go hay-wire all at once... and accidentally bite... :sidestep:

Woah... did I say that out loud???

Jenn :grin01:

Oh, and links would be greatly appreciated as I'd like to see any pics as well!

Hmmm... did they say the snake was tied to the tree? How? In knots or with a rope? *runs away really fast*

I for one am glad the villagers didn't harm the snake, it's nice to see them not being treated with fear and loathing but for what they are - animals who do what comes naturally to them.

Is anyone else imagining it like a scene from Buffy, which all 11 dogs sitting patiently and waiting to be eaten instead of attacking the snake all at once? :shrugs:

Good point, it's definately a nice change... (though the media doesn't always print or report on all occurances of snake friendly behavior so it may not be as rare as previously thought... )

I think you need to watch Snakes On A Plane so you can see how they all work well together! They have to behave themselves in a work environment.

I love SOAP...laughed my butt off the entire picture. =)

And Jenn, those two articles (which I don't have links to at home) only had one picture, of the big retic, close up so you could only see his girth, lying in between two grinning villagers. No pictures for the snake spa. =P

I read about the 11 dogs story somewhere, and it did occur over months.

The spa thing is a little gimmicky. How much therapeutic pressure will be exerted by corns, milks, or kings? I LIKE snakes but this therapy hold little appeal for me. I hope you're allowed to wear more than a towel. I wouldn't want no king near my thing. :grin01: :sidestep:

Roy said "thing"...teehee!

Yeah, I agree. I would think you'd need a heavier body snake with a bit more muscular "uumph" to feel anything...like maybe a yearling or two old ball python?
