Under-Tank Heating Pad Heat Range

I had a question about feeding habits of an adult during the winter months last week. I live in Ontario Canada. I learned during that thread that I need to discard my stick thermometer for a ExoTerra digital one with a probe. Did that over the weekend.

The probe is just above the glass in the main hide. The tank is 55 gallons. My UTH is not on a rheostat. I found that the temperature ranges from 83F at night to a max of 90F during the day. Most of the day the UTH is around 86-87F according to the digital thermometer. The footprint of the UTH is about 1/3 of the area of the bottom glass. The house temp is 65F at night and 68F during the day.

Is this fluctuation of ~7F normal for a UTH and SAFE for the snake?

Thanks

The probe should be right above the center of the uth. (I hot glue mine in place too.) This location will give you the best reading of the temps.

As it is now I would say you're running a bit hot. If you could regulate that down to the low end of 80 that would be better. Thus a thermostat or rheostat will be needed. But using a rheostat, the temp will vary with the house temps.
