undertank heater question

I'm looking to get another corn (or possibly 2) and I don't think I have enough space at the moment to get more 20L tanks. If I decide to go down the 28qt sweater box/Rubbermade route, I was wondering if I could just stick an undertank heater (with thermostat) to the bottom and if that would be sufficient for heating. One of my initial concerns with this was whether or not the undertank heater would melt the plastic or if the container would get too hot inside with the lid on. Thanks.
