Unexpected hatches part 2.....

Gronk

1.1 Beautiful kids....
Folks...

Ok, got a hell of a suprise about a month ago with a clutch of unexpected morphs (thread in Breeding section).....now another unexpected group of hatchlings morphs.

I bred my female Bloodred x male Charcoal (both from Don S.), expecting Normals het Pewter. Instead, the 4 good eggs that hatched produced the little ones pictured below ! At the moment, I can only assume these parents had hidden hets, either for Pewter or the Blood was het Charcoal and vice versa.

I'm having a little ID trouble tho. I think I have 1 Normal, 1 Charcoal and 2 Pewters. The 2 suspected Pewters have completely clear belly's and a "dusting" of red along their sides. The suspect Charcoal has checkering, but it's a bit faded. I just haven't seen enough pics of Charcoal or Pewter hatchlings to be sure.

The sad part of this is that the Bloodred female died, due to egg binding complications. 2 trips to a vet and excellent advice from Susan, Cheryl (JM), Connie and Dave (DanD) sadly could not save her :( . Sincere thanks to you 4 for all your help. She was one of my first corns and a favorite of mine.

I guess Murphy kicked me in the head with her loss, but Lady Luck left me a nice start on her legacy with these little ones.

1) All four
2) Charcoal ? Belly
3) Charcoal and Pewter ?
4) Pewter ?

Nice surprise there, Mike.

Looks like you've got two pewters, a charcoal and what looks to be a normal.

Congrats.

I see the pewter in picture 4 is acting like a typical bloodred.

Edit: The charcoal hatchling is displaying what is a common het bloodred belly pattern---and obviously is a het bloodred since it has a bloodred parent.

I think you're right Mike, unfortunately, according to the predictor, if what you think is right, you're missing a blood het for charcoal. Of course, we all know what's predicted doesn't necessarily show up, but it's close if your Blood was het charcoal and vice versa. Nice little clutch, though I'm sad for your loss.

Sorry to hear about this, Mike. Murphy may have kicked you below the belt by taking your BR female. But nice odds on 4 eggs when you didn't know the parents were het...WOW!

Good luck with them!

Thanks for the input ! :)

Quigs..tell me about it! To have only 4 hatch, the odds of this is a big surprise ! Let alone the idea both parents had hets in them. My goal with the pair was to produce offspring to mate down the road for Pewters. To see them in this tiny surviving clutch....crazy odds.

Bummer!

Sorry to hear about the female not making it, :( but happy to hear about the hatchlings. :)
