It seems as if I may not be able to find a place to live when I transfer to a university that accepts snakes (that I can afford). I am still looking, but just incase I need to be prepared to sale them early enough that it won't be rushed too bad, shipping snakes without time to plan a great shipping date for both parties just wouldn't be good.

My lesser problem is that I don't know how much I should be selling them for.

What I have are 1.4 Anery het amel, hypo, and motley corns. I got them as hatchlings in August of 2005. I have feeding records available and the name of the man they were purchased from. None have been bred yet.

Any advice, prices, or help is welcome!

Actually, if you have a car, I would try and find a place that is further away from the U and maybe on the city's out skirts. I am not sure if you are going to a place that is a big city or a small college town. But if its a small college town if you go a few miles out side of city limits you might be able to find something affordable.

Price wise (if you have to sell, which hopefully you won't!!) I'm not sure, but just as a guess I'd say anywhere from about 45 at the low end to 100 at the high end.

If the are homo motley then the price light go up a bit. I wasn't sure if you ment homo or het motley. Please get other advice on pricing before selling, as I'm not entirely sure.

Hope that helps!

What do you mean "a university that accepts snakes"? Do you mean one that will let you have snakes in the dorms? If so, I wouldn't get my hopes up for that. However if it such a hassle you could just not tell the university, when I lived in the dorms there was a strict no-pets policy but I still managed to keep a rat without to much trouble. Just keep the viv somewhere you can easily hide it if your RA does a room check. I know this seems dishonest, but out of all the rules in college I think this is one that isn't that important and holds little punishment besides them telling you to get rid of them. Of course I would look into the polices and make sure that they wont throw you out without a warning or something. Maybe they could stay with a friend until after you move in and get a feel for how often and what kind of room checks they do? But this is just my opinion.
P.S Watch out for fire drills, my college doesn't give warning, and go into your room to make sure no one is there.

He really meant

It seems as if I may not be able to find a place to live, when I transfer to a university, that accepts snakes (that I can afford).

Still not sure if the "that I can afford" applies to snakes or apartments or Universities.

I read it that way as well, lol. I decided not to reply yesterday because I didn't get it. Although, I would offer to buy the snakes if shipping was available.

Why tell the landlord you have snakes? If you ask outright, all of them are going to say, "No!" It's part of the prejudice people have about snakes. Just ask if they accept pets. If they say no, ask them if a pet in a cage, like a hamster, counts. A lot of places don't care about caged pets, most are worried about dogs, cats, and other free roaming animals. Plus, you could keep them in tubs slid under the bed, no one would ever know.

But yeah.. just ask if they their no pets policy includes caged animals. some places/landlords etc. will okay that because they feel their property wont get damaged, pee'd, poo'd on, etc (which is understandable.. you'd be surprised what some people will let their pets do and think its okay).

good luck though.

Just wait until I get a bedskirt for our new bed, I bet I could put 20 corns under there. My husband is already calling for a halt on the snakes, and even wants me to get rid of some. Now I have to hide them.

I only have one snake, but she's contraband.

I asked if an aquarium was fine, and it was okay.

I would go ahead and get a cheap place off campus, and just keep them....
but make sure they do NOT escape, and make sure you can cover them when your landlord might be there. Be smart. Don't give people a reason to be unreasonable- some people just don't like snakes.

Also, have a backup plan. If you are given a choice of either the apartment or the snakes, have somewhere where you can move the snakes until you decide to either move or sell or whatever.

Make an educated choice though- one snake is easy as pie to hide, 5 might be a little more difficult.

just my .02$

In the off chance that you are going to CSUCI, I'd be happy to rent you a place where you can keep also snakes! On the down side that would mean you are living in Oxnard :grin01:
As a property manager, I can't imagine why snakes would be a problem.

Also on a side note, when I was in school I found that it's much cheaper anyway to rent a room off campus than to rent in the dorms anyway... Generally other college students are living in such houses and happy to sublet rooms- snakes or no..

That's exactly what I did. My lease said "No pets" but knew other renters had birds and such. So the one time my landlord came to my apartment a year or so after I'd been there and had aquired Tiaga, he saw her viv and said, "I thought there was a no pet policy". I told him I thought caged pets were ok since others in the building had birds, hamsters, gerbils and such. He didn't question me again....lol

Why don't you see if someone can foster your snakes and you just pay for the food? This way you will still have your snakes. Where are you thinking of going to college?

If it's in the Charlotte NC area and you think you might want to foster them out I'll ask my husband if it's okay and we'll keep them while you're at school as long as you are able to pay for their food and any vet bills (if any).

Thanks; but, I'm afraid someone else would have to be foster parent. Husband said no. He has good reasons. I was disappointed but now that the idea is out maybe someone can make good on it. This way Chris won't be losing his snakes.

If it was just me there would be no problem. But I don't live here alone and I have to take my husband's concerns to heart. I don't seldon listen to him but I do know when I should.

There is nothing wrong with that at all. I still commend you for the offer. But really there's nothing wrong with listening to your spouse(must be why I'm not married anymore). :sidestep:
