Using pine to build a viv??

Hi Guys,

I'm in the pipeline of trying my hand at building a custom viv for my growing girl. The easiest solid wood for me to get here is pine, I have heard that there are issues in using pine shavings as bedding due to the oils and such... Is the same true for using solid pine as a structure??

If pine is not recomended, what other wood/material would be the best to use?

Thanks for any advice...

Thanks for the advice... I was planning on varnishing it; or even applying a self adhesive laminate to the surface.

I will look around for other alternatives as well.

I would think a varnish or water-based polyurethane would be a prefer way to good than a self adhesive laminate.

Hope to see some pictures when you done!!

Will do my best... might be while though, she's still got a bit of growing to do.

I re-surfaced another viv that was made out of man-made fibre with the vinyl laminate and it came out quite well (I'm not very 'handy' so small victories are good for the confidence). Just need to see how it holds up.
I'll try and get some pics up.
