UTH - any flexwatt opinions?

Hi everyone! I've been lurking for awhile and decided to post today.

Yesterday, I had my second UTH go out on me in about 3 months. The first one wasn't set up on a thermostat. I know, shame on me. I didn't know better and thank goodness I found you all here with great advice.

So, three months ago I bought another UTH along with the hydrofarm thermostat. My corn snake is in a 30 gallon breeder and the UTH was under but not attached. I also put the little rubber feet on the tank so it would sit above the UTH and not pinch it.

It's been working fine until yesterday. I came in and the therm read 73F. Eeek! It looks like the vinyl covering melted in a small spot. Luckily, I had a spare UTH because I returned the first broken one to the manufacturer and they sent me a replacement. I am about to send the second broken one off today.

Anyway, I have been researching alternatives to the UTH brand I've been using.

What are your thoughts on flexwatts? Positive experiences? Negative experiences?

Thanks!

Flexwatt has nothing wrong with it, it's best used for racking systems or inside custom wooden cages and putting something on top of it (plexiglass or some type of laminate flooring material.
I personally would use the exo-terra uth's with thermostat for glass tanks. I would suggest actually sticking it to the tank, it may be having to get too hot and maybe burning out due to sitting under instead of being stuck to the bottom.

I got back about an hour ago from shopping. I bought aluminum tape and taped the UTH onto the underside tank glass. I hope this UTH lasts.

How good is Exo-terra's warranty or guarantee on their products?

don't know havn't needed to send anything back. i like them because it has a sticky side on it so it's easy to stick to the underside of the tank.

you can use some kind of tape along the edges of flexwatt to secure it to the bottom side of a tank. I've used aluminum tape with good long lasting results.
