UTH question

osiris2013

New member
I am buying a bigger tank for osiris and was wondering if i can take my uth from my old tank and use it on my new one. I know its a dumb question but the uth is glued to the bottom of my tank. So how will i get it off old tank and will it reglue to new tnak or will i have to buy new glue or am i better off justg buying a new UTH. Which wife would have a fit if i got to buy a new uth cause i am spending $200 on a new tank. lol

If you get it off try aluminum foil tape to apply to new tank

IF I GET IT OFF?!?!?! i dont like the sound of that. lol my wife will have a fit if i have to buy a new. She dont like the idea of me having a snake as it is and so far i have spent $400 for everything i have. NL isnt the cheapest place for snakes and supplies. lol I know a UTH isnt expensive but the fact that i am paying $200 for a new tank when i have a 35 gal tall tank now is pissing her off haha.

This might help you remove your UTH http://ball-pythons.net/forums/showthread.php?66262-How-to-Remove-a-UTH, once you get it off and determine that it doesn't have any hot spots you can use aluminum tape to to tape it to the bottom of you tank.

If you have hot spots or the UtH won't work after you get it off and you have to buy a new one, instead of sticking it to your tank, cover the sticky side with tin foil and use aluminum tape to hold it to the bottom of the tank. That way you can move it from tank to tank easily.

UTH's aren"t made to peel off and apply to a new piece of glass. Wish I had better news for you, but you are going to break small electrical wires in a hundred places peeling that mat off of a tank it has been hot-glued to. Buy yourself a new UTH, you'll ruin that one getting it off, and/or risk burning your house down if you plug it in afterward. Take this from a guy who has worked with the medium for many years, and had UTH fires, plural. :)

Yup, you need a new UTH for sure.
I am sorry you live with such a shrew, but maybe a nice extravagence for her like a romantic dinner or a new pair of shoes might sweeten her up.

A new UTH is what your scalebaby NEEDS, and not setting the house on fire is an additional perk!

How big is Osiris?

He is 4 feet.

She not a shrew. just HATE snakes. She is scared of them. But decided I am gonna get a new UTH. Anyone know what is the best one to get?

So i bought a 40 gal tank osiris at petsmart and the girl that served me said she prefers the heat cable over a uth. So i decided to go with the cable. Dont know why. but I did. Now my temps are reaching 90 F and its hooked up to my thermostat. I got it set to 86 f but it dont cut off like it was in the old tank with the UTH. Should i bring it back to get the uth? The cable was $30 the uth is $45. What do everyone prefer?

Try setting your thermostat down a couple of degrees and see if that helps. Sometimes they aren't calibrated exactly right and the temp needs to be adjusted up or down to get the proper temps in the viv.

I have the hydrofarm on our gecko tank set to 89 and the temp fluctuates between 88 and 91.

I tried that. turned her back by 3 degrees. was afraid to go any further cause i was afraid she would drop to low for osiris. Should i go a few more degrees to try it? tks for the tip btw :)

sry to be a pain but i have another question about my heat cable. i really think i am gonna return it next time i am petsmart but until then i am stuck with this cable. so anyways.... i got my hydrofoam set and just out of curiosity i ut my thermoter on the glass to see how high that is and it read 109 F. I have the thermostat above the glass just a bit nder the substrate in the hide and it reads 85 F. I meassure my temps just under the substrate right?

Measure your temps directly on the glass, inside of the tank, directly above the UTH. If the glass is 109 then your snake could potentially rest on that glass and be exposed to too high of a temp. You want to measure the highest possible temp that your snake could touch, and it should be 82-85.

What Joba said. Measure right on the glass, your snake will burrow down to get more heat if it needs it.

It sounds like your really having trouble regulating that durn heat cable, I would probably try to make the trip to exchange it sooner rather than later.

Tks for the tip. I took your advise and put it directly on the glass. No problems so far. tks god lol tks again appreciate it.
